#5: UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites in China

In the modern world, where there are so many conveniences - cars, televisions, computers, the internet - and where people around the world are more connected than ever, it can be easy to forget your history. It is especially easy to forget the amazing creativity and hard work that your ancestors put into shaping your cultural heritage. For this reason, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has developed a list of "World Heritage Sites" in order to remind people of past cultural achievements and to recognize places worthy of preservation. China is home to 25 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites and four mixed sites (cultural and natural). This goal of this volume is to help your children or students understand how China's past has shaped the present, and will continue to shape the future.

"Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations" ~ UNESCO

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has developed a world-wide list of important and amazing sites to help people understand the influence of the past on our present-day world. China has 25 designated World Cultural Heritage Sites (plus 4 mixed cultural / natural sites), and all are clearly and concisely pictured and explained in this fascinating book and CD tour of preserved ancient wonders.

Students visit famous tourist attractions (Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall, the Summer Palace), but also learn about China's breathtaking topography and human accomplishments through paragraphs about lesser-known sites like the Four Mountains, the Peking Man site and the Confucius Family Mansion.

The OCDF Active Learning Approach is based on children becoming actively involved in their learning process while using their thinking, feeling, and physical domains. Using authentic assessment children are creatively encouraged to analyze, collaborate, discuss, write about and integrate their new knowledge, and the Active Learning Series books do an outstanding job of bridging the learning process and the finished product . The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites in China text offers activities and discussion topics to explore while utilizing this holistic approach, and helps students look at fascinating sites in China and truly grasp the reason for these sites' lasting importance on the global scale.

The book is divided into sections, with activities added for specific age-groups. The CDRom that accompanies the book is full of Chinese music, songs, storytelling, additional handouts and teaching tips. These support materials supply literally hours of cultural fun, along with extra background facts for in-depth instruction.
