Anhui: Explore-A-Province in China ® Series #1

About the series: China is a vast country! This book series is designed for families and educators who want to go beyond broad generalizations about China, and explore the wide variety of life and culture in each of China's provinces and municipalities. Each hardbound book in this series will focus on one province or municipality, and is written from the perspective of a young person (high school or college age) traveling in that province for the summer. In addition to being packed with information on such topics as history, literature, architecture, foods, famous people, things to see and do, and geography, the books are written in a fun and engaging style, with full-color photos and illustrations on each page.
About the Anhui book: One summer, Emma, a high school student from Chicago, Illinois in the USA, embarked on a journey to the far-east. She had studied Chinese for two years prior to her departure and had become passionate about anything and everything Chinese. As part of an exchange student, she was set to make a whirlwind summer tour of Eastern China, particularly Anhui, Shanghai, Shandong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces. Her first stop was to be Anhui. In no time, she would be exploring ancient structures, 1,000 year old villages, legendary caves, and beautiful landscapes. In due course, she would find herself expanding her cultural knowledge by hiking sacred Buddhist mountains, walking in the birthplace of Daoism, wandering the streets of the great Huizhou Merchants, as well as reciting from Lao Zi’s Dao De Jing.
Filled with gorgeous, full-color photographs of the region, and overflowing with valuable, in-depth information on Anhui's history, heritage, socioeconomy, capitol, and people, as well as special sections on Anhui destinations, local flavors, collector's items, and full-color maps, this volume in the Explore-A-Province in China ® Series is a welcome addition for those wanting an in-depth exploration of Anhui.
