LiBing's Tibet Trek Tour is one of our new premium OCDF Chinese Culture Tours, designed especially for families who have already been to China a time or two and as such have already “been there done that” at the traditional sightseeing locations. Join LiBing, one of OCDF's outstanding tour guides, in an exploration of breathtaking Tibet, "the rooftop of the world."

Itinerary

Day 1

Thursday, July 2: Leave your home country and fly to China. Arrange international airfare either on your own or through Marta LaCour at TravNET, email: marta.lacour@travnet.net, China adoptive family owned air ticket discounter to Asia.

Day 2

Friday, July 3: Arrive Beijing. Met by OCDF staff and transfer to the hotel (4-5 star). Lunch and dinner on your own.

OCDF Welcome Packet will be given at the time of airport transfer. Children will receive their workbook keyed to the tour itinerary (different from prior tour materials). Daily children’s treasures will be keyed to the itinerary (different from prior tour programs). Special designed Lily tour t-shirts will be sent to your family prior to the trip.

Day 3

Saturday: Breakfast at the hotel.
Beijing Sightseeing – Great Hall of the People, lunch at Sun Yat Sen Park, visit the new Capital Museum including kids craft room. Boat ride on the Grand Canal followed by Peking Duck Welcome Dinner.
Optional Afternoon/Evening: at the American Chamber of Commerce US 4th of July Party in Beijing. Cost for tickets to be announced at a later time (usually we will not know the price until a month prior to the event). Typical cost is $25-30 USD per person. They will have kids play area/games, food, beverages all included in the event. 1000+ persons attend the event each year.

Day 4

Sunday:Breakfast at the hotel. Chuandixia Daytrip (Restored Qing era village in the mountains NW of Beijing) with lunch in a peasant-style home. BBQ Dinner .

Day 5

Monday:Breakfast at the hotel. Fly to Chengdu in the morning, met by local guide. Transfer to Crowne Plaza or Sofitel Hotel. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit the Sanxingdui Museum (Shang Dynasty collection of masks and other artifacts) Dinner included. Evening Sichuan Opera variety show in local temple.

Day 6

Tuesday: Breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit old street in town near Wenshu Temple. Drive to Dujiangyan for lunch and visit to Daoist Temple. Then travel on to Wolong Nature Reserve locale. Check into the Wolong Villa Hotel. Dinner included. Evening free time.

Update: Due to the Sichuan Earthquake of 2008, we expect that 2009 tours will visit the Chengdu Panda Research Center instead of going to the Wolong Nature Reserve as listed. If the roads are rebuilt in time for your tour program and the region is safe to travel to, we will include the Wolong Nature Reserve.

Day 7

Wednesday: Breakfast at the hotel. Teen ages 14 and up can opt to have a volunteer-day at Wolong. Adults an opt to do this as well. Children of all ages will have photo opportunity to hold/hug a panda. Spend the day at Wolong Nature Reserve. Lunch included. Depart Wolong at 3:30 in afternoon for drive back to Chengdu. Dinner in Chengdu at hotel. Evening free time to swim.

Day 8

Thursday: Breakfast at the hotel. Morning fly from Chengdu to Lhasa, Tibet. Met at the airport and transfer by bus to a 4-star hotel. Lunch and dinner at the hotel (included). Afternoon and evening MUST rest for high attitude adjustment.

Day 9

Friday: Breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit Johkang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar. Lunch included at the Nepal restaurant. Afternoon visit to Norbulinka. Dinner included at hotel.

Day 10

Saturday: Breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit Potala Palace. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit to the Deprung Monestary. Evening Tibetan dinner in a family’s home.

Day 11

Sunday: Breakfast at the hotel. Morning visit to Sera Monestary. Lunch included at Chinese restaurant. Afternoon visit to the Ani Sangkhung Nunnery Nunnery. Visit the Tibetan Carpet factory. Dinner included at restaurant .

Day 12

Monday: Breakfast at the hotel. Fly to Shanghai. Met by local guide and transfer to the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza hotel. Lunch on your own. Afternoon sightseeing to Yu Garden – tour old city. Dinner on your own. Evening free time.

Day 13

Tuesday: Breakfast at the hotel. Half-day visit to the Shanghai Museum. Lunch included at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit to the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Research Institute and the Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. ,Lunch and dinner included.

Day 14

Wednesday: Breakfast at the hotel. Day trip to Suzhou by train. Met by local guide and transfer to visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden. Lunch at the silk factory. Visit the silk embroidery weaving institution. Ride on the Grand Canal with boat ride. Free time in Suzhou to shop. Late afternoon train to Shanghai. Dinner included at restaurant.

Day 15

Thursday: Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Shanghai Pudong airport for flight back home.
